Dziedziniec Zamku na Wawelu Kraków
Courtyard of the Wawel Castle in Kraków
A thorough reconstruction of the royal seat took place in the years 1501–1536 under the auspices of King Sigismund I the Old (Zygmunt Stary) himself.
The work was directed by two Italians: Francesco of Florence and Bartolommeo Berrecci, and after their death by Benedict from the Polish city of Sandomierz. The magnificent palace courtyard with light cloisters, supported on slender arcaded columns, is a perfect example of the Renaissance architecture.
