The aquifer is present here within sandy deposits, limestones and marls with local inserts of gypsum and anhydrites. It has been formed when the sea flooded the Krzeszowicki Ditch a dozen or so million years ago. On its bottom, calcium sulphate precipitated from water and as a result of chemical processes, sulphur compounds were leached. For over 250 years, local sulfide waters have been considered curative and the first patients were registered here in 1779.
