Collegium Maius, located at the intersection of ul. Św. Anny and ul. Jagiellońska is the oldest university building in Poland.
It owns several former university collections (works of art and souvenirs), as well as a rich collection of scientific instruments.
The standing exhibition consists of historic interiors such as Libraria (library), Stuba Communis (former dining room), treasury, professors' dwellings, Aula (containing a precious collection of paintings). In addition, there is also a permanently available interactive exhibition entitled "Sciences in Remote and Recent Past".
The collection of scientific instruments of the Jagiellonian University Museum has over 2,000 objects and includes exhibits from most scientific disciplines. The most valuable exhibit is the Jagiellonian globe dated about 1508, on which the America was first marked. The collection of paintings contains over 1,400 pieces – the oldest comes from the late 15th century, the latest are contemporary portraits of professors of the Jagiellonian University. The museum has a rich collection of sculpture consisting of more than a thousand objects, among which a significant part are collections of medieval sculptures from the regions of Małopolska and Silesia, as well as works of modern era artists, including the contemporary ones.
